Star Wars is a franchise worth celebrating over and over again. The celebrations held are basically supported for the sake of the fans. After all they’re the ones who motivate producers to shoot great works. The first ever star wars celebration was initiated by Lucasfilm which was in favor of the release of the Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Since then, there has been an occurrence of many more star wars events when introducing star wars episode II – attack of the clones and Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith as well as the 30th honor anniversary for the trilogy sequels.
In 1999, the hosted Star Wars celebrations were at the Wings over Rockies Air and Space Museum in Colorado, Denver. This was an event meant for the movie fans which was held in the movies official hometown for star wars fan club. This was three weeks before the official release of the 1st star wars episode which is sub-titled as the phantom menace. The second star wars celebrations kicked in 2002 to celebrate the forthcoming release of the second star wars episode i.e. attack of the clones. It was hosted in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Indiana Convection Center. Those who attended reached a total of 75,000. During the three day event, most of the fans visited the fan club store and autograph section most especially Carrie Fisher’s. The performance from the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis alongside Rick McCallum were the major highlights of the events.
April 21-24, 2005 marked the third star wars celebrations held in Indianapolis once more. This was in accordance to the release of the third episode – Revenge of the sith. During the celebrations, Lucasfilm organized costume contests, actor panels, fan films at the Indianapolis Convention Centre and provided the necessary props and costumes for display. The event is remembered due to the interview of Lucas, the producer of the movie where he answered tons of questions from the fans. The 30th anniversary celebration for the first ever filmed star wars series was held in 2007 as of May 24 to May 28. This was hosted at Los Angeles Convention Centre, LA. This event saw the first footage of the new clone wars animated series which would be released soon thereafter. There were also plenty of activities for the fans to participate in as well as the collector and costuming panels. To make the event juicier, LucasFilms sued the hosts, GenCon which led them into chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The fifth celebration was held during summer in 2010. This was in Orlando, Florida at the Orange County Convention Centre on August 12th-15th. The celebrations revolved around the thirtieth anniversary of the “the empire strike back” which is the second episode of the star wars movie series. Just like the past events, there was a handful of fan’s activities such as costume contests, star wars character’s e.g. Mark Hamill’s first appearances and much more. The sixth celebration followed in shortly on August 23-26 2012. It was also celebrated at Orange County Convention Centre in Orlando, Florida. The event witnessed appearances by casts; Mark Hamil, Anthony Daniels and Carrie Fisher as well as un-expected by the movie producer, George Lucas.
A few weeks after the fourth celebrations, star wars celebration Europe was hosted from 13-15th July. This was also intended to celebrate the 30th Anniversary for the first star wars film which was at Earls Court in London. Some of the greatest Star Wars collection were exhibited for the fans to see. The second celebration Europe was held at Essen in Germany at the Messe Essen Fair venue on July 2013. This was to celebrate star wars third film, Return of the Jedi, 30th Anniversary. There was also viewing of the star wars rebels.
Other Star wars celebrations which have been experienced over the century are; 30th anniversary of star wars premier in Japan which took place at Makuhari-Messe convention center, Tokyo. There was also the event at Anaheim, California. This was held in 2015 at the Anaheim Convention Centre where a high turn-up was expected since the release of the force awakens would be released later in the year. The fans enjoyed several footages of various star wars movie collections such as star wars: battlefront, the star wars rebels and the Rogue One. 2016 star wars celebrations include; the third Celebration Europe held on July 15-17 at the ExCel center in London. There will also be the celebrations at Orlando, Florida to commemorate 40 years of the first star wars movie. This will take place in 2017 on April 13th-16th. Star wars fans be prepared to experience the star wars life all over again.
